Russia: Olympic Games for children and adolescents promote active lifestyles

Russia 1Every summer since 2010, the Russian Diabetes Association organizes the Dia Olympic Games in Sochi. The Games are open to children and adolescents with type 1 and type 2 diabetes, and aim at promoting healthy and active lifestyles as a key tool to manage diabetes and prevent complications.

A total of 175 participants from Russia and neighboring countries including Armenia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan, are invited to compete in a wide range of disciplines including athletics, volleyball and football.

Besides the sports competition, participants to the event also attend lectures and interactive workshops on diabetes management. From this year onwards, the Dia Olympic Games will have a special focus on overweight children living with type 2 diabetes.
