WHO urges adults and children to reduce sugar consumption
The World Health Organization (WHO) has published new guidelines recommending adults and children to reduce their daily intake of free sugars to less than 10% of their total energy intake. A further reduction to below 5% or roughly 25 grams (6 teaspoons) per day would provide additional health benefits. WHO hopes the new guidelines, used in conjunction with other nutrient guidelines and dietary goals, will help guide development of effective public health nutrition policies and programmes to promote a healthy diet. Using price policies to promote healthier diets
A new publication by WHO Europe looks at how price policies for food products and help promote healthy diets. The report reviews examples of policy action from Denmark, Finland, France, Hungary, and the European School Fruit Scheme, and gives observations about the design of such policies.
