In the Spotlight Coming Soon: IDF Europe study on Access to Medicines and Medical Devices for Diabetes Care in Europe - The publication highlights disparities in access to quality medicines and medical devices for diabetes care in the 47 countries of the IDF Europe Region. This study aims to provide evidence to policy makers and stakeholders on the current challenges faced by people living with diabetes in terms of access to the treatment they need.
Initial findings of the study will be discussed on 13 November at the IDF Europe World Diabetes Day breakfast meeting in the European Parliament in Brussels. The full report will be available early December, in time for the World Diabetes Congress taking place in Melbourne from 2-6 December. For more information, visit www.idf-europe.org
Join us at the award ceremony of the IDF Europe Prize in Diabetes - The prize aims at increasing awareness of diabetes and recognizing outstanding individuals who have dedicated themselves to improving the lives of people with diabetes through their work and through research. This year, IDF Europe is awarding two prizes: one in the category Long-Standing Achievement and one in the category Young Researcher. WHO Europe publishes 3 volumes of case studies on Improving the lives of children and young people - As part of the European review of social determinants of health and the health divide, experts share case studies on major national policy developments and frameworks, local projects driven by community organisations and transnational initiatives in the field of childhood and health. Making health systems people-centred in the context of Health 2020 - Five years on from the signing of the Tallinn Charter: Health Systems for Health and Wealth, which called for greater investment in health systems, ministers and high-level officials met again in Tallinn, Estonia on 17 & 18 October 2013, at a follow-up meeting called “Health systems for health and wealth in the context of Health 2020”. WHO Europe launches Review of social determinants and the health divide in the WHO European Region - The review answers the demand from policy-makers for practical guidance on social policies that reduce inequities in health between and within low-, middle- and high-income countries. It presents compelling new Region-specific economic and human-rights-based evidenceas to why action on the social determinants of health is needed now. For more information, click here. EU Directive on Patients' Rights in Cross-border Healthcare enters into force - The EU law enshrines citizens' right to go to another EU country for treatment and get reimbursed for it.
