In the Spotlight
How can new technologies and social media empower people with diabetes? - This will be the question on focus at the IDF Europe Symposium at EASD on 22 September from 14h30 to 17h. Join a panel of experts to discuss how social media and new technologies impact the lives of people with diabetes. For more information and for the event programme, click here.
WHO Europe to hold 63rd session of the Regional Committee for Europe on 16-19 September in Çeşme Izmir, Turkey - Delegations from the 53 Member States in the WHO European Region will meet to discuss key public health issues in the region. Topics on the agenda include how to adapt and tailor the pillars of the global Non-Communicable Diseases framework to suit regional priorities and capacity. In addition, the implementation and monitoring framework of Health 2020 will also be a key item on the agenda.
IDF Europe has joined forces with a number of other international and European organisations in support of a joint written statement ahead of the European Committee. The statement will be made available via the IDF Europe website closer to the meeting. For more information, click here.

EFPIA (European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations) and PhRMA (EFPIA’s US counterpart) formally launch their joint principles for Responsible Clinical Trial Data Sharing to Benefit Patients - This commitment to data sharing will enhance research and scientific knowledge, advance patient care and improve public health. Under the Principles, biopharmaceutical companies will dramatically increase the amount of information available to researchers, patients, and members of the public. New initiative to promote physical activity in Europe: European Commission launches campaign to get people out of their chairs! - The European Commission adopted an initiative on physical activity which is the first ever proposal for a Council Recommendation on sport. Sport and exercise help people to stay physically and mentally fit by combating excessive weight and obesity and preventing related health conditions such as diabetes. The proposal encourages EU Member States to take measures across all policy sectors to encourage citizens to be or become physically active For more information, click here.
Better medicines for children - Progress report on the Paediatric Regulation - The European Commission has published a progress report on medicines for children. This preliminary snapshot shows improvements in the paediatric medicines landscape, better and safer research, more medicines for children on the EU market and more information for parents and health professionals.
