WHO European Ministerial Conference on Nutrition and Noncommunicable Diseases in the context of Health 2020, Vienna, 4-5 July: Health ministers, experts and representatives of civil-society and intergovernmental organizations will meet in Vienna to discuss how policy can address nutrition, physical activity and noncommunicable diseases in the context of Health 2020. Themes covered include: a whole-of-government approach to promoting well-being in the European Region; specific cost-effective policies to tackle diet-related noncommunicable diseases (NCDs); childhood obesity and inequalities in the European Region; the future of monitoring and surveillance of diet and physical activity related NCDs. IDF Europe, World Cancer Research Fund International and many other leading NGOs working in the field of food, nutrition and NCDs including will be issuing a Joint Statement ahead of the Conference. The Joint Statement will be posted on our website next week.

WHO Europe publishes report on Marketing of foods high in fat, salt and sugar to children: update 2012-2013: This publication reviews some of the recent policy approaches by WHO European Member States to control the marketing of foods and beverages to children, and provides a summary of recent scientific evidence linking advertising and marketing to children’s dietary behavior. WHO Europe 8th Global Conference on Health Promotion - Ottawa to Health 2020: Experts and policy-makers from around the world met on 10-14 June in Helsinki, to review progress and ways forward to promote health in every sector, and all policies. With a practical focus on country experiences, the Conference offered an opportunity to share models and methods. For more information, click here.

Lithuania takes up the EU Council presidency as of 1st July 2013 and announces priorities in the area of health: Priorities will focus on the revision of the tobacco products directive, sustainable heath systems, continuity of Ireland's efforts to reach general approach on clinical trials on medicinal products for human use and mediating the discussions on the regulations on medical devices as well as on in vitro diagnostic medical devices. For more information, click here. IDF Europe wishes to thank and commend the Irish presidency for their efforts in addressing childhood obesity and other key health priorities. IDF Europe welcomes the Action Plan on Childhood Obesity as announced by the Irish presidency.
Health and Enlargement - Welcome to Croatia! On 1 July 2013, Croatia will join the EU as 28th European Union Member State. The 10-year-long enlargement process steered Croatia to incorporate EU public health legislation, guidelines and best practices. Read more.
Call for tender: Pilot Project for developing and implementing successful prevention strategies tor type 2 diabetes has been published by the European Commission Health and Consumers Directorate General. Click here to access the Call. Deadline is 19 July 2013.
