Celebrating Diabetes Awareness Month in Serbia

Serbia2World Diabetes Day activities spread throughout November in Serbia. The campaign kicked off on 2 November with the Belgrade Diabetes Association organizing a marathon and support race for people with diabetes, “Blue circle around Ada’s lake”. The sporting event welcomed more than 300 participants.

Activities on World Diabetes Day included a breakfast meeting for the press, blood glucose testing in cities across the country, and a coordinated social media campaign.

In collaboration with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce, the association organised a Diabetes Forum which was attended by diabetes experts and representatives of the Ministry of Health and the National Expert Commission for Diabetes.

Serbia1Children with diabetes were not forgotten during Diabetes Awareness month.  In Subotica, the association for parents with children with diabetes released 100 balloons on WDD in support of 100 children living with diabetes in that city.

Serbia also contributed to the global Blue Monument Challenge movement, with several landmarks and monuments lit in blue including the National Assembly of Republic of Serbia, Belgrade’s City Hall, the Ada Bridge and many more.
