Master the art of healthy cooking with the Portuguese Diabetes Association

PortugalSince its creation in 1926, the Portuguese Diabetes Association (APDP) always believed that education of people with diabetes is one of the pillars of diabetes self-management. Besides, education of the general public is also essential to prevent diabetes.

This is why APDP has opened its “Dietetic Kitchen”, both to people with diabetes and the general public. The association organises in its Kitchen numerous cooking and educational classes about health eating and healthy cooking, and helps participants make the right choice when it comes to food, whether they live with diabetes or want to change their diets to reduce their risks of developing the condition.

Held by a professional Chef and a nutritionist from APDP, the classes allow you to become a real master of healthy cooking by focusing on specific recipes or dishes: soups, meat dishes, fish dishes, deserts and many more. The cooking lessons take place twice a month and are attended by a group of 12 people on average.

Enjoy APDP’s summer recipe: Semi-Frio de Morango (Strawberry yogurt and fresh cheese cake)

semifrio de morangoIngredients (4 people):

1 low-fat plain yogurt
5 tablespoons of artificial sweetener
2 low-fat fresh cheese
3 egg whites
500g strawberries

Preparation:

1. Wash the strawberries
2. Put the strawberries in a bowl together with the yogurt and the fresh cheese and mix everything together
3. Beat egg whites in a glass or metal bowl until stiff and add the sweetener.
4. Mix gently the egg whites with your strawberry preparation and put it to rest in the fridge until it gets solid.

Tip: keep a few strawberries to decorate the top of the cake.
