Movers & Shakers

Meet Katie Gallagher, Policy Officer at IDF Europe

KatieKatie joined IDF Europe in spring 2011 as Policy Officer. She mostly works on diabetes advocacy and policy-related activities for the organization. Another important part of her work these past two years has been to organize and coordinate the IDF Europe Youth Summer Camp with the aim to build a pan-European network of Young Leaders in diabetes.

Commenting on the project, Katie says: "I believe the youth camp has a lot of potential. The youth advocates having participated to the camp have become a powerful network and an excellent support mechanism for each other. These young advocates have a unique voice and are so motivated to act and work together across borders. Their determination and strength are things that stimulate me to do my job."

She has also found in IDF Europe a dynamic and multiculural environment to work in. The diabetes cause is something that further motivates her. "Most of all, I want the work I do to serve a purpose, to achieve something and stimulate some kind of progress towards improving things for people with diabetes and people in general", she adds.

Favourite quote: "Sing like no one's listening, love like you've never been hurt and dance like nobody's watching"

Things you would like to do most: I love travelling and trying new things. Climbing Mont Blanc, Serengeti national park, hiking the Annapurna circuit in Nepal, discovering the Amazon rainforest, diving the Great Barrier Reef are some of the things I’d love to do.
