To mark World Diabetes Day, Blue Circle, the Belgrade Diabetes Association, organised on 11 November an awareness-raising running race for people with diabetes and amateur runners willing to support their cause.
The race, called "Blue Circle around the Sava Lake" was a marathon race, which attracted more than 50 runners from Serbia, Croatia and Macedonia. Runners included professional athletes and people with diabetes.
Alongside the marathon, a “Fun Run” of 7,7 kilometers-long also took place. Participants run the race brisk-walking, running or rollerblading. The aim of the event, beyond the celebration of World Diabetes Day, was to remind the public how important physical activity and a healthy lifestyle is in preventing the onset of type 2 diabetes but also in managing diabetes.
"With this event, we want to show people wanted to show that people with diabetes can live a healthy and active life and go beyond the limits of their condition”, commented Bojana Marković, President of Blue Circle.
Blue Circle (Plavi Krug in Serbian) is an organisation committed to changing attitudes towards diabetes in Serbia through diabetes prevention, education, treatment and advocating for the rights of people living with diabetes.
